From the first to know
I was the Night shift DO in one of the Main ISAF HQ departments when I received the update for Cor's loss. It should be deep night, long after midnight. It wasn't the first time that I would have to deal with losses, but that occasion simply stuck in my mind. I remember asking myself: its night back in Holland and noone knows about it;''his mother or wife/gf sleeping now? did they feel something? how it will be the next day? how they gonna know about it? whats next?''
Since that day i did not forget that incident. That warrior from Holland/The Netherlands. Time to time he was coming in my mind. I did not know his name nor his age.Nothing.Just his nationality. So i went on research and managed to find his details. Now I would like to pay a visit on his memorial and how good it would be to meet his close buddies or colleagues in one of his future memorial events,if any.
RIP Cor. Thank you for watching us and for your sacrifice.
