Charles Garnett Wilde, born March 11, 1920 at Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada
He was the second of 9 children born to Harry Milton Wilde and Mabel Lillian Wilde (née Breault). Charles or Charlie grew up on the family farm at Richmound, Saskatchewan and attended school there. For 2 years after High School he was employed as a clerk in the local Municipal office. Early in his life he developed a love for flying and for aircraft and spent many hours building model planes out of balsa wood and tissue paper. And so when he joined the armed services in Feb of 1941 it was only natural that he would enlist in the Air Force. He graduated from RCAF Service Flying School at Claresholm, Alberta on Oct 5th of the same year. At his "Wings" ceremony the Duke of Windsor pinned on Pilot badge. On Nov 20 1941 he landed at Northampton, England. During his training period in Canada our brother R/94568 - AC1 - Richard Nelson Wilde was drowned in a boating accident at the Uplands Air Force Training Station near Ottawa, ON Nelson was also in the Air Force
It is a great comfort to us that his grave is attended by such care by your people and that his supreme sacrifice made so early in his life has not been forgotten".Resume by Doug Wilde – Charlie's brother - Regina, SK, Canada, 28 June 2007
