Jacobus was my mother's older brother, who sailed to what is now Indonesia in the late 1930s to work for the Rubber Cultuur Maatschapij Amsterdam in the
Aceh region of Sumatra, While there he joined a cavalry unit of the militia attached to the Royal Dutch East Indies Army (KNIL). After the invasion of Indonesia by the Japaneses forces he died in battle at Takengon in central Aceh.
