Bartele Coelingh was the brother of Gerrit Coelingh and his death affected him greatly. Bartele was the father of my wife and the picture of Gerrit smuggling food to people in a city that need food was brought with Bartele when he emigrated to the USA. Gerrit was originally from Hoogeveen. Some of the food he brought included pigeon meat. There was a Veldman in Hoogeveen that raised pigeons that was a friend of the Coelinghs and may have contributed to the feedings. There was also a Veldman from Hoogeveen that was executed with Gerrit that may have been a son of relative of the person raising pigeons.
