Anton Donkers lived in Soerabaja from 1939 with his wife Johanna and children Anton, Helena(my mother) and Peter. The family lived in Tegalsari straat.Anton was the head of an insurance company called Blom en van der Aa.Anton was the leader of the LBD in Soerabaja and was in charge of safety operations prior to the Japanese invasion.Anton was tortured on suspicion of hiding weapons from March-June 1942. In June 1943 he was falsely accused of destroying a Japanese warehouse and was sentenced to imprisonment. He died in prison on January 10, 1944 but was given a very honourable funeral which my grandmother was allowed to attend. He rests in Kembang Kuning cemetery.I am writing a book about the story of my grandfather and the life of the Donkers family in Indonesia. Will be grateful for more information regarding my father as I have wonderful photos to share.I can be contacted on jeroenangela@charanda.netJeroen
